Preparing for the 2018 Hurricane Season

June 1st marks the official start of hurricane season. Every year, businesses, governments, colleges and universities, hospitals, and other organizations along the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Coast prepare for the inevitable arrival of storms and hurricanes, doing everything possible to minimize their impact.

Veoci’s first trial was by hurricane.  Hurricane Sandy, to be specific.  It was the first major event our early partners deployed Veoci for, and it proved the value of integrating team collaboration, response coordination, and process automation into a single SaaS platform.

We’ve learned a lot since then in our ongoing quest to understand the overall impact of weather-related events and how to respond to them.  And we remain committed to educating ourselves and sharing everything we’ve learned since.

In that spirit, as we start this year’s hurricane season, here are some posts from our archives on preparing for, learning from, and contextualizing hurricanes and their impact on our lives.

Published September 2nd, 2015

Hurricane Katrina MemorialThe list of lessons learned from Katrina are many, but the one lesson that stands out is a fundamental wisdom that is often forgotten in the midst of destruction and chaos – Communication is #1. Although a simple and somewhat overused aphorism, emergency managers and responders often underestimate the importance of simply knowing what is going on and who is doing what. Even when it is assumed they are communicating well, there is still a potential to improve communications.
